Welcome to the start of Sloan Tours’ Iconic Ireland, a journey through the captivating landscapes of Southern Ireland. Your adventure begins in the awe-inspiring counties of Wicklow, Kilkenny, and Tipperary, where the history of Ireland comes alive over two days.
Delve into the fascinating past as we explore Glendalough, nestled in the picturesque County of Wicklow, Ireland. This ancient monastic settlement bears witness to the spiritual legacy left by St. Kevin, a revered figure in Irish Christianity. St. Kevin founded the monastic community at Glendalough in the 6th century. The ruins of Glendalough’s monastic buildings, including the iconic round tower, churches, and crosses, allow you to connect with the serenity and spirituality that drew St. Kevin to this enchanting place, offering a glimpse into Ireland’s ancient Christian heritage.
Then, as we travel through the Wicklow Gap, it’s off to Kilkenny with dinner at Kyteler’s Inn, a remarkable 799-year-old pub, where stories of old intertwine with the lively atmosphere of the present.
Continuing our adventure, we venture to the enchanting charm of a hidden treasure nestled amidst the rolling green hills with a secret garden awaiting.
Finally, marvel at the majestic Rock of Cashel in County Tipperary. Perched atop a dramatic limestone outcrop, this historic fortress presents a mesmerizing sight. Step back in time as you explore the impressive ruins of the ancient structures, including the iconic round tower, the Cormac’s Chapel with its remarkable frescoes, and the medieval cathedral. The Rock of Cashel holds tales of kings and saints, witnessing centuries of Irish history unfold within its weathered stone walls. This phase, in Counties Wicklow, Kilkenny, and Tipperary features some breathtaking sights including Glendalough, Wicklow Gap, Kilkenny, Dove Hill Castle, and the Rock of Cashel.

Day 2: Moderate (2 out of 5)
Walking around Glendalough and the Wicklow Gap is leisurely. For those who want to explore more, a 20-30 minute round trip walk can bring you down to the Upper Lake at Glendalough for some serene and quiet moments of reflection.
At Dove Hill Castle, you have the opportunity to climb the spiral stone staircase for an incredible view atop the five-story fort. Note: Some steps are missing in the staircase. Please use caution when climbing.
Your visit to The Rock of Cashel does require a short but fairly steep climb from the drop-off point up to the castle itself. Once inside, minimal walking is required as we tour the grounds.

Phase Two:
The Ring Realm
The second phase of our Iconic Ireland Tour takes you through the legendary Ring of Kerry, showcasing a tapestry of natural wonders and cultural treasures.
As we delve into the enchanting region of Sneem, Ireland, our base for four memorable days. Prepare to be swept away by the sheer magnificence of your surroundings, with Kenmare Bay just steps away from your self-catering lodge with living room, dining room, and kitchen.
The wonders of Killarney National Park await, beckoning you to explore its mystical realms. Gaze in awe at the panoramic sights of Ladies View, where nature’s masterpiece unfolds in a tapestry of emerald-green meadows and shimmering lakes. Feel the mist on your face as you stand before the majestic Torc Waterfall, its cascading waters harmonizing with the rich, lush moss-laced forests surrounding it.
Step back in time as you wander through the halls of Muckross House and Abbey, where history echoes in every corner, and the grandeur of the past is palpable. Venture into the mystical Gap of Dunloe, a gateway to another world where rugged mountains and hidden valleys stir the imagination.
The legendary Ring of Kerry beckons, revealing a land of coastal splendor and captivating tales. Day 6: Moderate (2 out of 5)Walking around Killarney National Park will be more walking than some days, but most of that walking is on level ground or paved paths. You will have many opportunities to walk more or less based on your needs or interests.
On our rest and recharge day in Sneem, you will have the opportunity to hike or kayak in Kenmare Bay, which definitely can increase your physical activity, but again, you can go and explore at a pace that is comfortable for you.
When touring The Ring of Kerry, there will be many notable stops, but plenty of time to rest your legs in between.

Phase Three:
The Cliffs Region
Your adventure heads north to the awe-inspiring counties of Clare and Galway, where nature’s wonders and cultural delights intertwine.
Over four unforgettable days, you’ll be immersed in the breathtaking beauty of this region. Prepare to be mesmerized by the iconic Cliffs of Moher in the most excellent way. You won’t simply be dropped off at some visitors’ center. You’ll be experiencing it in two unforgettable ways. Everywhere, towering cliffs plunge dramatically into the Atlantic Ocean, offering panoramic views that will leave you breathless. Later, explore the unusual Burren National Park, a unique karst landscape unlike anything you’ve seen.
But that’s not all – at the Ireland School of Falconry in Ashford Castle, you’ll have the extraordinary opportunity to fly Harris Hawks, experiencing the ancient art of falconry firsthand before an evening of exploring and dinner in Galway.
And what better way to end each day than by indulging in Ireland’s rich tradition of Trad music and pub experiences? The lively atmosphere of authentic pubs is not to be missed, where the sound of fiddles and bodhráns fill the air, and locals gather to celebrate the spirit of Irish music and storytelling.

On Day 8 is the hike of The Cliffs of Moher. Unique to our tour group, we do an extensive hike option of 4 miles, leading from Doolin to O’Briens Tower at the Cliffs of Moher Visitors Centre. Thanks to the exposed cliff edges and swift changes in the weather (accounting for wind, rain, and fog), the Cliff Walk can be classed as a moderate to difficult walk. The ground is relatively flat, with one significant prolonged incline, but the path is uneven, so care is needed. We highly encourage our guests to go on this hike. Our pace is around 40-minute miles, so our walk will last for around 3 hours in total. A VERY relaxed pace with many moments for rest, reflection, photos, and enjoyment.
On Day 10, guests will have the opportunity to walk around the rugged landscape of Burren National Park, the city of Galway, and the halk walk around the forests of Ashford Castle.

Phase Four:
The Capitol
The fourth phase of our Iconic Ireland Tour finishes as we cut cross country toward the capital city of Dublin. These final two days are a fitting culmination of our journey through the heart of Ireland as we make our way from Doolin to Dublin.
Our adventure takes us through the picturesque landscapes of central Ireland, offering glimpses of its charming villages and rolling countryside.
Upon arrival in Dublin, we immerse ourselves in the vibrant atmosphere of this cosmopolitan city. We embark on a cultural exploration, visiting the renowned Trinity College to witness the magnificence of the ancient Book of Kells. This beautifully illustrated Gospel book, created by Irish monks around the 9th century, contains lavishly decorated pages adorned with intricate illuminations and stunning calligraphy, showcasing the artistic mastery of the time. This remarkable manuscript is a testament to the skill and devotion of its creators and offers insights into the religious and cultural heritage of early medieval Ireland.
Strolling through the lively streets of Temple Bar and Grafton Street, we soak in the lively ambiance, vibrant shops, and street performers. A visit to the awe-inspiring Christ Church Cathedral showcases the city's rich history and architectural beauty. The cathedral holds immense cultural and religious significance, with its origins dating back over a thousand years. Stepping inside, we are surrounded by the grandeur of Gothic architecture, soaring arches, and beautiful stained glass windows.
With free time to explore Dublin at your own pace, you can uncover hidden gems, indulge in shopping, or soak in the city's unique atmosphere. Our journey culminates in a final dinner together, where we reflect on the incredible experiences we've shared and the memories we've created throughout our Iconic Ireland tour.

Once you land at Dublin airport, there is little left to think about. All land transportation (bus, car, boat, train), accommodations, admissions, activities, sights, and two meals per day (breakfast + lunch or dinner) are all included in the cost of your tour.
Our tours never leave a bunch of holes for you to pay for to experience the fullness. While we provide optional add-ons on occasion, they are very limited and do not leave holes in your experience. -
